Charleston is my favorite city in the United States. It is about an hour and a half drive from my school so it’s typical for students to go on day trips to get away from all of the school chaos and stress. Whether you’re taking a weekend vacay or a quick day trip to this beautiful, charming city, here are the 6 things you should make sure to do.

EAT. Eating is by far my favorite thing to do in any city and Charleston has some unbelievable food. They are known for their seafood and barbeque, but they have a TON of different kinds of restaurants. My favorites include…

Rodney Scott BBQ- Voted #1 best BBQ place in Charleston. The ribs and the mac and cheese are to die for.

Blossom- Seafood. The crab dip as an appetizer is a move.

Amen Street- Did somebody say "southern comfort food?" Think shrimp and grits, she crab soup and hush puppies.

Felix- Amazing french restaurant with fun and cool atmosphere.

Indaco- Best italian food I’ve had in the South… and trust me that is not common. No offense, southerners.

SHOP. Charleston has the most adorable boutiques, especially on King Street. It has chain stores like Free People, Vineyard Vines, Forever 21 and Anthropologie, but they also have cute, non-chain stores. My favorites are Shop SXC, Dress Up, Two Cumberland, and House of Sage. They also have the Charleston City Market on Market street which sells unique art, food and souvenirs.

STROLL. The Battery is a must see. Take some time to walk along the water, enjoy the sights, sit in the park, read a book and look at the beautiful southern-style mansions. This is such a peaceful area of Charleston that I can’t resist going to every time I visit.

EXPLORE. The College of Charleston is 100% the most beautiful college campus I have ever seen and it’s right in Downtown Charleston. Small and quaint colored buildings, weeping willow trees with spanish moss, red brick floors- It’s so beautiful that it almost makes me want to transfer… almost.

INSTA. Rainbow Row is a small street with cute, colored houses. It’s a bit underwhelming but hey, it’s great for the insta.

BEACH. Several beaches are around Charleston. However, you’ll need a car to get to them from downtown Charleston. I’ve only been to Folly beach which had a pier, rentable lounge chairs and umbrellas and a cute little town with beach boutiques and restaurants. It’s about a half hour away from the city. Other beaches that I have heard of are Sullivans Island and Isle of Palms.

Just writing about this makes me want to hop in my car and drive out to the coast. So if you’re planning your next adventure, why not come down South?
