Ah, the holiday season. It’s absolutely freezing and I’m gaining weight by the second from all of the hot chocolate and cookies I’m consuming. But nonetheless, it is one of my favorite times of the year. I am a Christmas fanatic. I mean, my roommates literally get annoyed that I put up our Christmas tree on November 1st and ask to play “All I want for Christmas” by Mariah Carey at pre-games. Personally, my favorite holiday tradition is waking my entire family up at around 7am to open presents. Yes, I am 21 years old and still do this. And no, I’m not ashamed.

I asked my family and friends what their favorite holiday tradition was. Here’s what they said…

Sarah: “Watching It’s A Wonderful Life, perhaps.” I’ve known Sarah for about 14 years now and every holiday season she talks about this movie. She ain’t lyin’.

David, my brother and a sophomore at the University of Colorado: “Ham.” Idk why this response makes me laugh.

Sam, a senior at the University of South Carolina: “Having a tequila shot handed to me every time I walk past the bar.” Interesting take on the wholesome holiday spirit, Sam.

Jennifer, my mother: "I actually like hosting Christmas Day at our house." I like it too, mom.

Tatiana, a recent Fordham University graduate: “Eating cuban pork on Christmas Eve.” To clarify, she’s Cuban.

Dylan, a senior at Skidmore College: “Eating Yucca and Tamales on Christmas Eve.” To Clarify, she’s also Cuban.

Charlotte, a senior at The University of South Carolina: “My family dances around the Christmas tree and we sing Danish songs.” To clarify, she’s Danish.

Justin, a senior at Tulane University: “Going on vacation.” To clarify, he is Jewish.

Olivia, a recent University of Delaware graduate: “I have a big Italian family, so we spend Christmas Eve with my dads side of the family and do the whole feast of the 7 fishes. My grandfather was a tailor and made each of us Santa bags to put our gifts in when we were born and we still use them. We also do a $5 white elephant game every year.” Now this is what I call adorable.

Phoebe, a senior at The University of South Carolina: “We go to Butch Mcguires every Christmas Eve for brunch and get hammered with all my cousins in the city.” That must be a Chicago thing.

Jenna, a senior at The University of Colorado: “Tracking Santa on Norad.” I don’t know what this means if I’m being honest.

Winnie, a senior at The University of South Carolina: “My favorite is cooking a big brunch and drinking Christmosas!!!” Can you tell my college friends like to drink?
