6 Halloween Costumes From Your Own Clothes

If you’re anything like me, you figured out what you want to be for Halloween months ago, but you also won’t actually buy anything for your costumes until the last minute. Halloween costumes can be insanely expensive, and for an outfit you’ll probably only wear once? Not worth it.
Instead of shelling out cash for some Spirit Halloween shit that at least five other people will be wearing, head to your closet. It might take some imagination, but I’m positive you already own pieces that can be incorporated into a totally unique costume. In case you really can’t get it together, here’s inspiration for how to pull amazing Halloween costumes from clothes you already own.
Leopard
Leopard, cheetah, I’m honestly not sure if I can tell the difference. This print was super popular this summer so I’m assuming you have some animal print article of clothing hiding somewhere. I was a leopard for last year’s Halloween and I thought making spots on my face was going to be way harder than it was. If this print isn’t your fave, you can def swap this out for whatever animal print clothes you do have.
Hippie
Maybe hippie isn’t a new idea, but you can make sure your costume stands out from all the rest. All you really need is flare pants and a flowy top and it’ll be pretty obvious what you are. I love that this costume really relies on the fashion and has a modern twist on the classic 70s look. Borrow circle glasses from your trendy friend and you’re good to go.
Skeleton
I think it’s pretty impossible for you to not have some kind of black dress lying around. If you want to rely on your insane makeup skills to create a costume, go for the skeleton makeup. You can wear anything as long as it’s black. I’m also into this all white makeup. An all white skeleton look would be very cool and different.
Sun and Moon
I’ve literally never seen anyone do this costume in real life, but my Pinterest feed is popping with Sun and Moon duos. I’m really obsessed with this but none of my friends will be the sun to my moon, so if you do it I’ll be v jealous. Take any glittery, metallic clothing you can find and put it all together. The only part of this costume you might need to buy is the headpiece, but it also looks like an easy DIY.
Devil
Ok, can we take a sec and appreciate how sick these outfits are? I’m a huge fan of the 70s take on such a traditional costume. I’m not saying you have a red furry coat and latex pants chilling in your closet right now, so these pics might serve more as inspo for your all red outfit. If you can piece this together, though, I’ll be super impressed.
Camp Counselor
Kinda random, but I’m dying to be a camp counselor for Halloween. Ringer tees and piped shorts are just completely my vibe. I’ve also never seen anyone dress up as this. If you’ve ever slaved away working at a summer camp and still have your staff shirt stuffed in a drawer, pull that baby out, this is your costume. Pigtail braids, high socks, and sneakers will make this the comfiest costume you’ll ever wear.
Don’t worry if you don’t have the exact pieces in these photos, because I’m almost certain you have something similar hiding out at the back of your closet. It’s surprising how easy it can be to make awesome costumes out of your own clothes. From one broke college kid to another, here’s hoping you don’t spend all your savings on costumes this year.
