There’s nothing like driving down a suburban street lined with the reds, oranges, and yellows of autumn. It’s a picture perfect scene, but it needs the right music. As soon as the weather starts to get colder, my taste in music does a total 180 from the beachy tunes I have on repeat in the summer. Something about sweater weather puts me in the mood for folksy acoustics and indie rock. If you’ve never listened to this kind of music while taking in the autumn foliage, give it a try and get back to me.

For When You’re Having Roomie Bonding Time: Ophelia - The Lumineers

I’m actually shook at the amount of time my roommates and I have spent together this fall. Usually, this is around the time that everyone starts cracking down on homework, but we’ve really been out and about. Whether you’re just hanging and sipping on cider or gathered in the kitchen baking some pumpkin goods, you need background music. The Lumineers fit into the folksy indie category but will also satisfy the needs of your basic friends that only listen to the radio.

For When You’re Driving On A Crisp Fall Day: Woodland - The Paper Kites

Clearly, taking a drive during the fall has me feeling some type of way. So do The Paper Kites. If there’s one album that describes autumn in a nutshell, it’s the Woodland EP. The song Woodland makes me want to move to the country so I can drive down never-ending, winding roads for the rest of my life.

For When It’s Almost Winter: Holocene - Bon Iver

I couldn’t make a fall playlist without including Bon Iver. Their original stuff is so dreamy and full that it pairs perfectly with cozying up with a blanket and sitting by the fire. Holocene is one of my all time favorite songs, too. I’ll listen to it a couple times in the fall, but it really reminds me more of wintertime.
